This image isn’t a real atmospheric event

This image isn’t a real atmospheric event .. it’s digital art inspired by real storm physics.

In nature, lightning inside massive storm clouds can briefly illuminate different cloud layers at once. When artists exaggerate that effect, you get these surreal color transitions .. blues, purples, and golds appearing where electrical discharge would normally reveal only shades of gray.

What’s real behind the inspiration:

• Cumulonimbus clouds can rise over 15 km high
• In-cloud lightning lights the storm from the inside
• Ocean surfaces reflect color and contrast dramatically at night

What makes this image impossible in reality is the full-spectrum color saturation across the entire cloud mass at once. The atmosphere doesn’t refract lightning light this evenly or this vividly.
