Margaret Tudor
3rd May 1516: Margaret Tudor arrived in London. Margaret had last been in England in 1503 when she left to marry King James IV of Scotland. Over the next thirteen years until 1516 Margaret had a volatile marital life, which resulted in her leaving Scotland and coming to stay with her brother for a period of time. James IV had been killed at the Battle of Flodden against the English in 1513. With her husband’s death Margaret had become regent for their one year old son King James V. In haste and without consulting the Scottish Council, Margaret married Archibald Douglas, sixth Earl of Angus. In addition to this the Duke of Albany and cousin of the late King James IV, arrived in Scotland as a possible successor to the young James V. Mary found herself trapped between her husband and the council. She fled Scotland for England while heavily pregnant. At Harbottle Castle in Northumberland she gave birth to a daughter named Margaret on 8 October. Margaret became ill for some time, resting before she finally came to London.
