Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer

Designed by Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer, office building at the exhibition of the German Werkbund in Cologne 1914.
The office building of a model factory complex by Gropius and Adolf Meyer (1881-1929) included exposed spiral staircases encased in a glass skin, an architectural motif that would become a feature of many modern buildings.
The first Werkbund Exhibition, held in 1914 in Cologne, was one of the biggest exhibitions of the time, although it ended prematurely due to the First World War. The exhibition aimed to show an international audience what Germany was capable of producing.
