The 73rd Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best of 2000 in film and took place on March 25, 2001, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
"Gladiator" won for Best Picture over "Chocolat", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Erin Brockovich", "Traffic".
Russell Crowe won Best Actor for "Gladiator" over Javier Bardem "Before Night Falls", Tom Hanks "Cast Away", Ed Harris "Pollock", Geoffrey Rush "Quills".
Julia Roberts won Best Actress for "Erin Brockovich" over Joan Allen "The Contender", Juliet Binoche "Chocolat", Ellen Burstyn "Requiem for a Dream", Laura Linney "You Can Count on Me".
Benicio del Toro won Best Supporting Actor for "Traffic" over Jeff Bridges "The Contender", Willem Dafoe "Shadow of the Vampire", Albert Finney "Erin Brockovich", Joaquin Phoenix "Gladiator".
Marcia Gay Harden won Best Supporting Actress for "Pollock" over Judi Dench "Chocolat", Kate Hudson "Almost Famous", Frances McDormand "Almost Famous", Julie Walters "Billy Elliot".
