Lazybones

"Lazybones" is a 1925 silent film directed by Frank Borzage. It's a drama film based on the novel "Jenny" by Grace S. Richmond.

In the early 20th century, the lazy but good-hearted Steve, nicknamed Lazybones, lives with his indulgent mother. He's in love with Agnes, a girl from a wealthy family. Meanwhile, Agnes' sister Ruth returns home from college with an unannounced infant. Ruth, fearing her mother's reaction, tries to commit suicide by jumping into the river. Lazybones rescues her and learns that Ruth secretly married a seaman who was lost at sea.

Feeling sorry for Ruth, Lazybones takes care of the baby, whom he names Kit, temporarily. He doesn't reveal Ruth's identity as the baby's mother and tells others that he found Kit. He waits for Ruth to claim her child, but in the meantime, he becomes attached to the infant.
