Robert W. “Bobby” Troup Jr


 Robert W. “Bobby” Troup Jr. (1918–1999), a gifted musician, songwriter, and actor whose work left an indelible mark on American popular culture. Troup is best known for composing the timeless classic “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66”, a song that became an enduring symbol of American road travel and has been covered by countless artists over the decades.

Beyond his music, Troup also made a memorable impact on television. He starred as Dr. Joe Early on the 1970s hit TV series Emergency!, acting opposite his real-life wife, Julie London, who played Nurse Dixie McCall. He also had a cameo in Robert Altman’s 1970 film MAS*H, showcasing his versatility and charm on screen.

Bobby Troup passed away from a massive heart attack on February 7, 1999, and was laid to rest at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills. He is remembered not only for his musical genius and acting career but also for his 40-year marriage to Julie London, a partnership that combined love, talent, and enduring legacy.
