March 26, 1954, TV Guide cover featured Jackie Gleason. At the time, Gleason was one of television’s biggest stars, headlining The Jackie Gleason Show, which ranked among the most popular programs on the air. The cover captured him at the height of his early TV success, often billed as “The Great One,” alongside the popular June Taylor Dancers, a regular part of his variety series.
This issue came during the first full year of TV Guide, which had launched nationally in 1953 and was still establishing itself as a staple of American households. Like all early issues, it featured regional program listings in addition to national television highlights.
During this period, Gleason’s show also included the early sketch version of The Honeymooners, which would later evolve into the classic standalone sitcom the following year.
