Quantum Leap

March 26, 1989, the NBC science fiction series Quantum Leap premiered, created by Donald P. Bellisario.

Starring Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett and Dean Stockwell as Admiral Al Calavicci, the series followed a physicist who becomes trapped “leaping” through time, inhabiting different people’s lives in order to correct historical mistakes. Each episode combined science fiction with drama, humor, romance, and social commentary, as Sam worked under the guidance of Al, who appeared only as a hologram visible to him.

The series became known for its emotionally driven storytelling and “issue-of-the-week” format, often exploring historical events and personal struggles through Sam’s temporary identities. It ran for five seasons on NBC before concluding its original run on May 5, 1993.
