Little girls don’t arrive softly

 Little girls don’t arrive softly

they don’t knock
they don’t wait

they burst in
like a storm with sparkles

mud on their dresses
glitter in their hair
big emotions spilling out of tiny bodies

they stomp
they spin
they cross their arms like they mean it

one minute all attitude
the next
wrapped around your neck like you’re their whole world

they are loud
they are wild
they are everything all at once

and they were never meant
to be anything less
