5000 years old? This yew tree resides in the churchyard of St. Digain's Church in the village of Llangernyw.
Although determining the exact age of yew trees is challenging, a certificate from the Yew Tree Campaign, displayed at the churchyard gate since 2002 and signed by David Bellamy, states that "according to all the data we have to hand," the tree is estimated to be between 4,000 and 5,000 years old. David Bellamy used the same methods he employed for dating the Tisbury Yew in Wiltshire, including radiocarbon dating. Additionally, a carved stone board by the tree corroborates this estimate, indicating that the Llangernyw Yew is one of the oldest non-cloning trees in the world.
