The Breakers

The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island, around 1904 and 2017. This 125,000-square-foot, 70-room seaside "cottage" was designed by prominent architect Richard Morris Hunt, and it was completed in 1895 for railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt II. The house remained in the Vanderbilt family until 1972, when it was sold to the Preservation Society of Newport County. It has been preserved as a museum, and it is open to the public for tours.
