Windsor
This house in Windsor, Connecticut was built in 1781 as the home of Oliver Ellsworth, a politician who served as one of the state’s delegates to the U.S. Constitutional Convention in 1787. There, he helped to orchestrate the Connecticut Compromise, and he later served as a U.S. Senator and then on the US Supreme Court as Chief Justice from 1796 to 1800.
He lived here until his death in 1807, and the house remained in his family until 1903, when it was donated to the Connecticut chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The house is seen here in these two photos around 1920 and 2017. It is still owned by the DAR, and it has been restored to its appearance when Ellsworth lived here.
