The Pride of the Yankees

"The Pride of the Yankees" is a 1942 biographical film directed by Sam Wood. It tells the life story of famed baseball player Lou Gehrig, who played for the New York Yankees and whose career was cut short by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), now often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Gary Cooper stars as Lou Gehrig, portraying his rise from a young immigrant boy to a legendary baseball player. The film covers Gehrig's struggles and triumphs on and off the field, including his record-setting streak of 2,130 consecutive games played, his relationship with his wife Eleanor (Teresa Wright), and his battle with ALS.

"The Pride of the Yankees" is celebrated for its heartfelt portrayal of Gehrig's life, as well as for Gary Cooper's moving performance in the lead role. The film is also notable for featuring appearances by several real-life baseball figures, including Babe Ruth and Bill Dickey. It remains one of the most beloved sports biopics in Hollywood history.
