The R@pe of Proserpina
Past experiences have shown me that apparently this post needs a disclaimer - in no universe does appreciating the craftsmanship and attention to details on this piece of art mean the endorsement of s*xual assault.
While the piece is more commonly referred to as The R@pe of Proserpina the more accurate translation is The Abduction of Proserpina. It is a large Baroque marble group sculpture by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini, made between 1621 and 1622. It depicts the abduction of Proserpina, who is seized and taken to the underworld by the god Pluto. It features Pluto holding Proserpina aloft, and a Cerberus to symbolize the border into the underworld that Pluto carries Proserpina into.
