*Tamblyn was a hyperactive child with a penchant for gymnastics and performing. He took the stage during intermissions at the local movie theater and gave tumbling performances.When he was 13, Tamblyn lived in North Hollywood, studied dramatics under Grace Bowman and dancing at the North Hollywood Academy.He developed a musical act that involved singing, dancing, juggling and comedy.
*Discovered at age 10 by actor Lloyd Bridges after acting in a play, Tamblyn first appeared on film in a small non-speaking role in The Boy With Green Hair (1948) starring Pat O'Brien.
*His training as a gymnast in high school, and abilities as an acrobat, prepared him for his breakout role as Gideon, the youngest brother, in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954).For the famous barn raising dance sequence, the cast rehearsed for three weeks in order to get the intricate choreography down. It was during one of these rehearsals that Russ Tamblyn wandered over to the set along with his co- star Jeff Richards to see how the scene was coming along. "Michael Kidd called me over and said, 'Rusty, somebody told me that you're a good tumbler, that you can do some flips'," said Tamblyn in a 2004 interview. "So I did a back flip for him. 'Fantastic!' he said. 'We'll put it in a number.' I told him I really wasn't a dancer, except for some tap dancing. But he said, 'Listen, this is just like square dancing. All you have to do is lift your legs high. You can do a lot of acrobatic stuff. It's perfect.' That's how I became a dancer in Seven Brides."
*Tamblyn portrayed Norman Page in the film of Peyton Place (1957) at 20th Century Fox, opposite Lana Turner and Diane Varsi. For his performance he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
*He played Eleanor Parker's brother in the Western Many Rivers to Cross (1955) along Robert Taylor and Jeff Richards.It's one of film which Tamblyn and Jeff Richards appeared together.Another movies were: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and Don't Go Near the Water (1957).
*Originally auditioned for the part of "Tony" in West Side Story (1961), but was cast as "Riff" instead, while the part of "Tony" went to Richard Beymer.
*One of Russ Tamblyn’s notable film credits includes his role as Luke Sanderson in the horror-fantasy film The Haunting (1963).In the beginning, Russ Tamblyn was not very interested in playing the role of Luke Sannerson until "MGM" threatened him to resign his contract. Years later he confirmed that Sannerson was his best role by far for years.
