The Olav's church

The Olav's church in Tønsberg, Norway, better known as the round church, possibly had a defensive function. The large, round and powerful round church stood almost as a central tower in a castle.
The round church was probably completed in 1207.
The inspiration for the round church in Tønsberg may have been the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, which throughout the High Middle Ages was one of the Crusaders' foremost and most important places of pilgrimage and worship.
The mighty and powerful earl - Erling Ormsson (1115-1179), had been on crusade, and he donated money to build the round church.
