Carrollton

Long before the streets were paved and homes were built so close together that residents could easily peek through neighbor's windows from their own, Carrollton primarily consisted of small family-operated farms and dairies. This home on Cohn street is one of the oldest still around that reminds us of the many such businesses that existed at the turn of the century. Built by Eugene LaSalle, this was the sight of his family dairy and farm that operated for more than 50 years over two generations. The home was originally a single-family raised bungalow and was converted to include two 'basement' apartments when LaSalle family descendants sold the house in 1943. Other than the enclosement of the lower level, very little has changed about the exterior of the home since it was built.
