"A Man for All Seasons" won the Best Picture award over "Alfie", "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming", "The Sand Pebbles" "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
Fred Zinneman won Best Director for "A Man for All Seasons", over Claude Lelouch "A Man and a Woman", Richard Brooks "The Professionals", Mike Nichols "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
Paul Scofield won Best Actor for "A Man for All Seasons" (his Oscar was accepted on his behalf by Dame Wendy Hiller) over Alan Arkin "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming", Richard Burton "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", Michael Caine "Alfie", Steve McQueen "The Sand Pebbles".
Elizabeth Taylor won Best Actress for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" over Anouk Aimee "A Man and a Woman", Ida Kaminska "The Shop on Main Street', Lynn Redgrave "Georgy Girl", Vanessa Redgrave "Morgan!"
Walter Matthau won Best Supporting Actor for "The Fortune Cookie" over Mako "The Sand Pebbles", James Mason "Georgy Girl", George Segal "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", Robert Shaw "A Man for All Seasons.
Sandy Dennis won Best Supporting Actress for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (Peter Ustinov accepted her award on her behalf) over Wendy Hiller "A Man for All Seasons", Jocelyne LaGarde "Hawaii", Vivien Merchant "Alfie", Geraldine Page "You're a Big Boy Now".
