Lady for a Day

"Lady for a Day" is a comedy drama film released in 1933, directed by Frank Capra.

Set during the Great Depression, the story follows Apple Annie (May Robson) a kind-hearted but impoverished street vendor who sells apples on the streets of New York City. Despite her humble circumstances, Annie is beloved by the local community, including Dave the Dude, a gambling gangster who believes her apples bring him good luck, and his henchman Happy McGuire.

When Annie's daughter, Louise, returns from Europe with her wealthy fiancé, Annie fears that her daughter will be ashamed of her humble existence. Desperate to maintain the facade of wealth and respectability, Annie gets help of a group of loyal friends to pose as members of high society and convince Louise that her mother is a prominent socialite.

As the elaborate ruse unfolds, Annie and her friends navigate a series of comedic and touching moments, ultimately teaching valuable lessons about love, friendship, and the true meaning of family.

May Robson delivers a standout performance as the lovable Apple Annie, capturing the character's warmth, resilience, and indomitable spirit.
