4 July 1553: 1s King Edward on the Mend?
Rumours were flying about that King Edward's health was improving. For the first time in weeks, many saw him at Greenwich, but they also said that he looked so thin and wasted that they doubted anyone could 'foretell whether he will live an hour longer'.
The king has signed a will expressly appointing Lady Jane Dudley his successor, excluding Lady Mary on religious grounds, citing her disobedience to him, and Elizabeth on the grounds of her illegitimacy as enacted by his father.
