Credits read, "Myrna Loy (courtesy of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer)" and it seems as if she sought this role after having portrayed the snooty young lady in "Emma". This third film adaptation of the novel moves Becky Sharp from the Regency era into the present day in a film funning one hour and eighteen minutes. Needless to say, a great deal is omitted including the Napoleonic Wars and social satire. Nevertheless, it is Loy's first starring feature film, and she does a fine job, and it is well worth seeing. The cast is solid and even if turning calendar pages are used to suggest her descent into ruination, it's an enjoyable Pre-Code.
