1,009 years ago, Friday, April 23, AD 1014, famous 10th-Century High King of Ireland Brian Boru (941-1014), met his earthly demise at the age of 73 near the town of Dublin, Ireland when he was assassinated immediately following the Battle of Clontarf.

☞Brian Boru was the Irish Warrior King who united all of the Irish tribes against the onslaught of the Viking invaderss in Ireland during the 10th Century. Whilst praying & giving thanks upon the occasion of his great victory after the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, he was assassinated by a rogue Viking, thus ending the reign of one of Ireland’s most revered & charismatic leaders.
☞Brian Boru’s name is remembered nowadays as the title of one of the oldest tunes in Ireland’s traditional-music repertoire: “Brian Boru’s March,” which is still widely played by Irish-Traditional musicians.
