Harry Houdini

Harry Houdini (March 24, 1874 – October 31, 1926) He first attracted notice as "Harry Handcuff Houdini" on a tour of Europe, where he challenged police forces to keep him locked up. Soon he extended his repertoire to include chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, straitjackets under water, and having to hold his breath inside a sealed milk can. In 1904, thousands watched as he tried to escape from special handcuffs commissioned by London's Daily Mirror, keeping them in suspense for an hour. Another stunt saw him buried alive and only just able to claw himself to the surface, emerging in a state of near-breakdown. While many suspected that these escapes were faked, Houdini presented himself as the scourge of fake magicians and spiritualists. As President of the Society of American Magicians, he was keen to uphold professional standards and expose fraudulent artists. He was also quick to sue anyone who pirated his escape stunts. Houdini made several movies, but quit acting...

Huilen

Afbeelding

Born Rosemarie Magdalena Albach, the daughter of German film star Magda Schneider and Austrian actor Wolf Albach-Retty. She made her film debut at the age of 15 in the West German production, "Wenn der weiße Flieder wieder blüht" (When the White Lilacs Bloom Again 1953). Her career was made, however, by the Sissi trilogy: "Sissi" (1955), "Sissi: The Young Empress" (1956) and "Sissi: The Fateful Years of an Empress" (1957), the highly romanticized life of Elisabeth of Austria. Other French and German films included "Christine" (1958), "Ein Engel auf Erden" (An Angel on Wheels, 1959) and "Katia" (1960). A foray in Hollywood resulted in "The Cardinal" (1963), "Good Neighbor Sam" (1964), "What's New Pussycat?" (1965), and a guest appearance on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In." During the 1970s, she worked largely in France, appearing in "Les choses de la vie (The Things...

Wat ooit het mooiste was

Afbeelding

Mooie dag lieverds Xxx

Prudhoe Castle

Prudhoe Castle in Northumberland, England Bult as part of a series of Norman Castles along the Tyne after the 1066 Norman conquest, Prudhoe was continuously occupied for over nine centuries. It was originally the home of the Umfravilles but was eventually taken over by the famous Percy family who restored it. Prudhoe survived two sieges during the 1170s and was the only Northumberland castle to resist the Scots. You can explore the keep, great hall and towered walls enclosing a fine Georgian mansion. Prudhoe castle is a ruin, but a very large and considerable ruin.

Engelen Boodschap

Afbeelding

Caerphilly Castle in Wales

Afbeelding
Caerphilly Castle in Wales, is a vast 13th century stronghold built to defend against Welsh prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd. Today, managed by Cadw, it presents some of the most magnificent examples of medieval architecture, and provides a glimpse into Wales’ fraught history. Begun in around 1268 and mostly complete by 1271, Caerphilly Castle’s imposing medieval architecture and 30 acre span was intended to mark English authority in Wales, and is thought to have inspired some of Edward I‘s ‘iron ring’ of castles. Built by English nobleman Gilbert de Clare to maintain his hold on the historic county of Glamorgan, Caerphilly was the second largest castle in Britain after Windsor, and only heightened tensions between de Clare and the native Welsh population. Llewelyn ap Gruffudd, the last Welsh Prince of Wales, twice tried to set the castle alight while still under construction, and in the following decades continued to fight English rule. When Llewelyn was killed in 1282 however, Caerphilly ...

Turku Castle

Afbeelding
Turku Castle is a medieval castle in the city of Turku in Finland. Together with Turku Cathedral, the castle is one of the oldest buildings still in use and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. It was founded in the late 13th century and stands on the banks of the Aura River. The castle served as a bastion and administrative center in Eastland, as Finland was known during its time as a province of Sweden. Only once did the castle figure in the defense of the realm, when Russian invaders from Novgorod destroyed Turku in 1318. It more frequently played a role in internal struggles for power within Sweden and the Kalmar Union. The castle's heyday was in the mid-16th century during the reign of Duke John of Finland and Catherine Jagellon. That was when the Renaissance Floor and King's and Queen's hall were built, along with other features. It lost its status as an administrative center in the 17th century after Per Brahe's period as governor-general of Finlan...

It has been claimed that she then penned one final letter to Henry: My most dear lord, king and husband,The hour of my death now drawing on, the tender love I owe you forceth me, my case being such, to commend myself to you, and to put you in remembrance with a few words of the health and safeguard of your soul which you ought to prefer before all worldly matters, and before the care and pampering of your body, for the which you have cast me into many calamities and yourself into many troubles. Jung

Jung thought that whatever its roots in previous experience, neurosis consists of a refusal – or inability – in the here and now to bear legitimate suffering. Instead this painful feeling or some representation of it is split off from awareness and the initial wholeness – the primordial Self – is broken. Such splitting ultimately derives from the apparent impossibility of affirming the whole of one's nature and gives rise to the range of dissociations and conflicts. - Donald Sandner and John Beebe, Psychopathology and Analysis. In Jungian Analysis, edited by Murry Stein (Splitting, Possession, and Working Through). The unconscious is repressed, and a person ends up in an energic impasse. With energy being used for such a narrow range of activities and for defenses against the sealed-off unconscious, much of life's possibilities for wholeness and satisfaction are denied. - Murray Stein, Jung's Map of the Soul: An Introduction (Emergence of the Self: The Five Stages of Consci...
