Goldie Hawn

Farrah Fawcett was in line for the role of Gloria in "Foul Play" (1978). However, the studio opted for Goldie Hawn when Spelling-Goldberg Productions, the producers of "Charlie's Angels," warned all the studios that "they would be sued for damages if they employed me," Fawcett told The Associated Press in 1979. She was still under contract with Spelling-Goldberg when she left the show. Farrah can be seen in the background at the party scene where Goldie's character is introduced.

The name of Hawn's character, Gloria Mundy, is taken from the Latin phrase "Sic transit gloria mundi," which translates as "So passes the glory of the world" or "Thus passes the glory of the world." The phrase was used until 1963 in the papal coronation ceremony.
In Sweden, the distributors named the movie "Tjejen som visste för mycket," Swedish for "The girl who knew too much." This was a nod to the movie's similarity to Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1956), and tied in well to Hawn previously having starred in "The Girl from Petrovka" (1974), which had a literally translated Swedish title. This led to a long row of Goldie Hawn movies continuing getting the same kind of Swedish titles: "Private Benjamin" (1980) - "The girl who joined the army." "Best Friends" (1982) - "The girl who didn't want to marry." "Swing Shift" (1984) - "The girl who took a shift job." "Wildcats" (1986) - "The girl who won the game." "Overboard" (1987) - "The girl who fell overboard."
"My career has been a very odd one. It's never been a career about romance, or playing the girl dependent on the man. I always played certain characters, kooky, quirky or strange. So I'm lucky that way. Looking back on who that person was, it's odd, because I'm not like that anymore. But I identify with her very much, because that's who I was."
Happy Birthday, Goldie Hawn!
