Philip I

.
Although he was crowned king at the age of seven, until he reached the age of fourteen, his mother acted as regent.
Anne was the first queen of France ever to do so.
Philip was known as Philip The Amorous.

Although the marriage produced the necessary heir, Philip fell in love with Bertrade de Montfort, the wife of Fulk, Count of Anjou.
Casting Bertha aside, claiming she was too fat, he married Bertrade on 15 May 1092.
Philip was subsequently excommunicated by the Bishop of Lyon, then by Pope Urban II.

In 1104 Philip made a public penance, and kept his involvement with Bertrade discreet.
The ban was then lifted.

In 1077, he made peace with William the Conqueror, who gave up attempting the conquest of Brittany.

As per his wishes, instead of being interred at St Denis, with his forefathers, he was buried at the Monastery of Benoit-Sur-Loire.
His son Louis VI, succeeded his father, as King of France.
