Shocking but true
Henry is often pictured as eating like an animal with grease dripping down his beard and servants ducking the bare bones as he threw them over his shoulders. But he was a great prince who would eat in the correct Tudor manner : carved pieced of meat dipped in sauces and placed in the mouth. Cats or dogs were banned from the dining rooms and clothes were far too fine and expensive to have greasy hands wiped over them.
Hands would be washed in rose water and dried on linen napkins.
