Mary Queen of Scots

However, it was not the explosion that killed him.
His body was found outside of the property, not harmed by the explosion......he had been strangled.
Suspicion for Darnley’s murder fell on the Earl of Bothwell, Mary’s next husband.
Mary married Bothwell in Edinburgh, on 15th May 1567 ~ it would prove to be the final nail in the coffin, to Mary's downfall.
Rumours started soon after, that Darnley’s murder had been a crime of passion orchestrated by Bothwell and the Queen.
Rumours swirled, that she was pregnant even before their wedding, and that they had been having an affair before Darnley’s death.

They confronted Mary and Bothwell, where intense negotiations took place.
Mary was taken prisoner, and spent her last night in Edinburgh, under house arrest.

She escaped on the 2nd May 1568.
Gathering an army, she attempted to take Scotland back.
Unfortunately for the Queen, they were defeated at the Battle of Langside.

Sadly, that was not the case.
Once again, Mary was put under house arrest.
Suspicions rose that Mary was plotting to take the throne of England for herself, she was arrested for treason.

She was executed.
The men responsible spent over a decade imprisoned in the Tower of London for the mistake.
As for Bothwell, he had fled to Dunbar, and never saw Mary again.
He died in Denmark in 1578.
