James Stewart and Cary Grant
James Stewart and Cary Grant in The Philadelphia Story, 1940.
Katharine Hepburn’s comeback movie. It won two Oscars, one for the screenplay and one for Stewart, who said it was a consolation prize after he didn’t win for Mr Smith Goes to Washington. He probably had a point; Philadelphia Story was obviously Grant and Hepburn’s movie. Stewart thought his friend Henry Fonda far more deserving that year for his performance as Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath.
