Trivia of Claudia Cardinale (15 April 1938)
*Born in Tunisia.Her native languages were French, Tunisian Arabic, and the Sicilian language of her parents. She did not learn to speak Italian until she had already begun to be cast for Italian films.
*She had originally planned to pursue a career in teaching, but that all changed when she won a beauty contest in Tunisia in 1957. This unexpected victory opened up a whole new world of possibilities for her, and she decided to pursue a career in acting instead.She was quickly noticed by the French film industry and cast in her first movie, "Goha," in 1958 starring Omar Sharif.
*She made her Hollywood debut in movie The Pink Panther" (1963) as a Middle Eastern princess whose prized possession - the titular jewel - is stolen by a master thief, "The Phantom" (David Niven).As she had a deep voice and spoke Italian with a heavy French accent, her voice was dubbed in her early movies. The Pink Panther (1963) was meant to be her first English-speaking role; however, her voice wound up being dubbed by Gale Garnett, who went uncredited.
*In the early 1960's, she worked in several Hollywood films, including ‘Circus World’ (1964) opposite John Wayne and Rita Hayworth; ‘Blindfold' (1966) opposite Rock Hudson; 'The Professionals' (1966) opposite Burt Lancaster; Don't Make Waves (1967) opposite Tony Curtis.
Despite many Hollywood movies she starred, she could not become as popular as Sophia Loren or Gina Lollobrigida, as she did not sign exclusive contracts. By the end of the 1960s, she returned to Italy.Cardinale has further said, "I don't like the star system. I'm a normal person. I like to live in Europe. I mean, I've been going to Hollywood many, many times, but I didn't want to sign a contract."
*Her co-star in Lost Command (1966),Anthony Quinn expressed his love of working with Cardinale.He stating that although he adored Cardinale and Loren equally, "I relate easier to Claudia, Sophia creates an impression of something larger than life, something unobtainable. But Claudia – she's not easy, still she's within reach.
*Long considered one of the world's great beauties, she has appeared on more than 900 magazine covers in over 25 countries.
*Once photograph of Cardinale was featured in the original gatefold artwork to Bob Dylan's album Blonde on Blonde (1966), but it was used without her permission and removed from later pressings.
