The Night of the Hunter


 "The Night of the Hunter" is a 1955 American thriller film directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, and Lillian Gish.

Set in West Virginia, the story follows Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum), a sinister and manipulative ex-convict who poses as a preacher to charm and manipulate unsuspecting women. Powell sets his sights on two young children, John and Pearl, in search of the hidden money their father left behind.

As Powell's pursuit of the children intensifies, they find refuge with Rachel Cooper (Lillian Gish), a tough and resourceful older woman who takes them in and protects them from Powell's malevolent influence. The film explores themes of good and evil, innocence and corruption, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
