NORMA TALMADGE

NORMA TALMADGE, one of the biggest stars of silent film, is almost forgotten today except by film buffs. Born 5/2/1894 her career rose quickly - particularly after her marriage to Hollywood powerhouse Joseph Schenck. Her voice was deemed suitable as talking films came into vogue, and she appeared in 2 Pre-Code films.

Losing favor with a public that thought her old-fashioned, she decided to quit film work in 1930. Extremely wealthy, reclusive - but also beset by addiction problems, she shunned the formerly adoring public telling them "Get away, dears. I don't need you anymore and you don't need me."
