Breaking Bad
During the planning stages of Season 3 of Breaking Bad, creator Vince Gilligan and the writers’ room did discuss early, rough story ideas involving Walter White seeking outside help to challenge or undermine Gus Fring.
Among those very preliminary brainstorming concepts was the idea of Walt somehow reaching out to a powerful imprisoned dr*g figure, sometimes described online as a “South American dr*g lord.”
However, this was never a fully written or locked-in plotline. It didn’t progress beyond the idea phase because the writers quickly realized there was no believable or organic way for Walt to make such a connection without stretching plausibility.
Gilligan has repeatedly said that Breaking Bad avoided plot mechanics that felt “convenient” or external to Walt’s established world.
Instead of expanding the story outward, the writers chose a more grounded and character-driven direction: escalating the conflict within Gus Fring’s existing operation and deepening Walt’s psychological warfare, paranoia, and moral decay.
