THE CLOUD EDGE TURNED INTO A RAINBOW FLAME
THE CLOUD EDGE TURNED INTO A RAINBOW FLAMEIt happened on the Hawaiʻi coastline near Nā Pali (Kauaʻi), right before sunset — when the ocean was darkening, and one towering cloud caught the last light like a lantern.
That glowing, multi-color “fire” along the cloud edge is the look of cloud iridescence. When sunlight hits a thin part of the cloud filled with tiny, similar-sized droplets or ice crystals, the light bends and spreads into colors — like a prism. Sunset makes it even richer, because the light is warmer and comes in at a low angle, so the edges shine while the rest of the cloud stays deep and shadowed.
