A Perfect Moon Halo

 A Perfect Moon Halo

What you’re seeing around the Moon is a 22-degree lunar halo, formed when moonlight passes through tiny hexagonal ice crystals in high-altitude clouds.
As the light bends by exactly 22 degrees inside each crystal, it creates a full circular ring, sometimes showing faint colors when the crystals are well-aligned.

ice crystals + refraction = a precise, circular halo around the Moon.
