A quiet pine lake, low fog on the water, and a deep red moon sitting dead-center inside a perfect color halo ... with the whole scene mirrored like glass.

That rainbow-like ring is an optical halo: moonlight passes through tiny ice crystals (or very uniform droplets) high in the air and bends at specific angles, creating a circular ring around the moon. The moon looks red when its light travels through thicker air and gets filtered by dust/haze, which removes more blue light and leaves warmer tones.
