RAINBOW HALO OVER THE SEA
RAINBOW HALO OVER THE SEAA low sun behind broken clouds… and a perfect rainbow band stretches across the sky, with light rays pouring down onto the water.
This isn’t the usual “rain after a storm” rainbow. It’s closer to a halo/iridescence-style optical effect: sunlight interacts with tiny cloud droplets (and sometimes ice crystals in thin high cloud), splitting the light into color by diffraction/refraction. The bright beams are crepuscular rays—sunlight streaming through gaps in the clouds and made visible by moisture and haze.
