Trivia of George Sanders (3 July 1906 - 25 April 1972)
*His heavy, upper-class English accent and smooth, baritone voice often led him to be cast as sophisticated but villainous characters. He portrayed wicked Jack Favell in Rebecca (1940), egoistical blackmailer Addison Dewitt in All About Eve (1950), and Sir Brian De Bois-Guilbert the main villain in Ivanhoe (1952).
*To avoid confusion in their respective careers, George and his brother Tom Sanders flipped a coin to decide who would change his name. Tom lost, dialed a random number at a payphone, and upon getting an answer from Conway's fish market became known as Tom Conway.Sanders and his elder brother Tom Conway appeared in film : The Falcon's Brother (1942) and Death of a Scoundrel (1956).
*Before production Samson and Delilah (1949), George Sanders learned that Victor Mature obtained Samson role for him from De Mille.He then bought twenty six TV sets from a store owned by Mature and gave them to various persons of his acquaintance.
*His ex-wives Zsa Zsa Gabor and Magda Gabor were sisters.
*Among his movies , All About Eve (1950) is his personal favorite.For his role as the acerbic, cold-blooded theatre critic Addison DeWitt in All About Eve (1950), Sanders won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.Reportedly Zsa Zsa Gabor kept arriving on the set because she was jealous of her husband George Sanders in his scenes with the young blonde ingƩnue Marilyn Monroe.
*He voiced the Bengal Tiger, Shere Khan in Jungle Book, (1967). During the production of The Jungle Book, Sanders was unavailable to provide the singing voice for his character Shere Khan during the final recording of the song, "That's What Friends Are For". A member of The Mellomen (musical group), was called in to substitute for Sanders.
*Sanders told his friend actor David Niven in 1937 that he intended to commit suicide when he got older. In 1972 he fulfilled his promise, leaving this note: "Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck." He committed suicide on April 25, 1972.
