Marfa was the third wife of Ivan the Terrible, and the third Tasrita of Russia.

After the death of his first and second wives, Anastasia and Maria, Ivan was looking for a new bride.

Marfa was born in 1542, the daughter of a merchant from Novgorod.

From the twelve marriage finalists selected, Ivan chose Marfa.

A few days after her selection, Marfa began to succumb to a mysterious ailment.

It was rumoured that she was unintentionally poisoned by her mother, who gave her a potion supposedly meant to increase her fertility.

Despite rapidly losing weight and barely standing, Marfa was married to Ivan on 28th October 1571.

Sixteen days later on 13th November, 16 year old Marfa was dead.

Ivan became paranoid and once again, murdered many Boyars, and even some of Marfa's family on the suspicion of Marfa's murder.

Very soon after Marfa’s death, Ivan began looking for a wife.... again.
