The Jewell Encrusted Remains Of St Hyacinth

❤ The Jewell Encrusted Remains Of St Hyacinth ❤
.
❤ Encrusted with jewels and draped with garments of glittering gold, this is surely one of the best-dressed skeletons in history.
Hyacinth lies preserved in Furstenfeld Abbey, an elaborate Bavarian church close to Munich, Germany, and despite his jaw-dropping attire, he is little-known among tourists.
The remains of Saint Hyacinth, have been preserved as a sacred full-body Christian relic for hundreds of years, encased in an ornate glass case.
❤ Saint Hyacinth, whose supposed skeleton is decked out with a dazzling crown and has a jewel-encrusted bottom jaw, died in 108 AD at the age of only 12.
According to legend, he was imprisoned and tortured in Rome for being a Christian, and failing to worship the traditional Roman gods.
❤ As a boy, he was appointed to serve as an assistant to the Chmberlain of the Emperor Trajan.
His failure to participate in the ceremonial sacrifices to the official Roman Gods, soon came to be noticed by other members of the Imperial household.
❤ When he was denounced as a Christian, Hyacinth proclaimed his faith.
As a result, he was imprisoned and underwent numerous tortures. He was deliberately served only food which had been blessed for sacrifice to the gods, the eating of which was banned by Christianity.
Thus, he starved to death in 108 AD, dying at the age of twelve.
Just before his death, legend says, his jailers saw him being comforted by angels, who bestowed a crown on him.
