In August 1991, Paul Prenter died of an AIDS related illness.

Even though Freddie and Paul went separate ways several years back, when Freddie discovered that Paul had died, according to Peter Freestone, he was sincerely and profoundly sad and touched by the news, remaining upset and thinking about it for weeks.

Freddie and Paul were close friends, confidants, partners in crime, professional collaborators for many years, always together, but in 1987, Paul betrayed Freddie when he sold his personal secrets and private photos to the tabloids. This hurt Freddie.
