Nashville 99

April 1, 1977, Nashville 99 premiered on CBS.

The short-lived crime drama starred Claude Akins as Det. Lt. Stonewall “Stoney” Huff, a tough, old-school lawman balancing police work with life on his 200-acre farm outside Nashville, and Jerry Reed as Det. Trace Mayne, a country music–aspiring officer who often pitched his songs to entertainers he encountered on the job.

The supporting cast included Lucille Benson, Charley Pride, and Dianne Sherrill, with guest appearances by notable figures such as Chet Atkins, Ned Beatty, Pat Hingle, Don Johnson, Ray Stevens, Mel Tillis, and Tammy Wynette.

Running for just four episodes from April 1 to April 22, 1977, the series blended police drama with country music culture. Directed by Lawrence Dobkin, Don McDougall, and George Sherman, it was produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The theme song was co-written and performed by Reed, who would soon co-star with Burt Reynolds in Smokey and the Bandit later that year.
