*While kids were playing tag in the schoolyard, young Thelma was performing monologues for her friends and family, her favorite being from The Story of Cremona.
*Ritter's first movie role was in Miracle on 34th Street (1947) after her family friend Director George Seaton cast her. She made a memorable impression in a brief uncredited part, as a frustrated mother unable to find the toy that Kris Kringle has promised her son.Her first credited role as Mrs Katie Cusack in film City Across The River (1949).
*Appeared in three films with Marilyn Monroe: All About Eve (1950), As Young as You Feel (1951) and The Misfits (1961).
*Often play wisecracking or acidulous roles.
*Her first Oscar nomination was for her role as Birdie in All About Eve (1950).She later received a record six Best Supporting Actress nominations from the Academy Awards but never won the award.
*Mother of actress Monica Moran, they appeared together in a 1966 road show production of "Bye Bye Birdie" that also starred Tab Hunter.
*What's So Bad About Feeling Good (1968) became Thelma Ritter's final film.Her movie debut, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), was also directed by George Seaton, making Ritter one of a handful of actors to be directed by the same person in both their first and last films.
