Arsenic and Old Lace

"Arsenic and Old Lace" is a classic comedy film released in 1944, directed by Frank Capra. The film stars Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, and Raymond Massey.

The story revolves around Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant), a drama critic who discovers that his elderly aunts, Abby and Martha Brewster, have been poisoning lonely old men as an act of charity. Mortimer's attempts to deal with his eccentric family become increasingly complicated when his long-lost brother Jonathan (Raymond Massey), a notorious serial killer, returns home with his sidekick Dr. Einstein (Peter Lorre).

As Mortimer tries to keep the situation under control and protect his fiancee Elaine (Priscilla Lane), chaos ensues, resulting in a series of hilarious and absurd mishaps.

"Arsenic and Old Lace" is celebrated for its witty dialogue, zany plot, and memorable performances, particularly Cary Grant's comedic turn as the exasperated Mortimer Brewster. Despite its dark subject matter, the film maintains a light and farcical tone throughout, making it a beloved classic of American comedy.
