If your baby is around 8–9 months and suddenly seems more clingy
If your baby is around 8–9 months and suddenly seems more clingy…
it’s not your imaginationTheir brain is expanding
This is right around the age where object permanence really clicks
which just means your baby now understands
you still exist… even when they can’t see you
Before this, when you left the room
you kind of just disappeared from their world
Now?
you don’t
Now they know you’re somewhere else
and they want to get back to you
So the sudden crying when you walk away
the only-wants-you phase
the not-letting-you-put-them-down energy
that’s not regression
that’s development
It’s also when separation anxiety starts to show up
because they understand something new and uncomfortable:
you can leave
So they hold tighter
watch you closer
panic faster when you’re gone
It can feel like you’re back in the newborn stage again
no space
no breaks
always needed
But this isn’t survival mode anymore
it’s attachment
They’re not just needing care
they’re choosing you
So if your baby feels extra attached lately
if you can’t even step into another room without tears
you’re not doing anything wrong
you’re watching their world get bigger
and realizing
you’re the center of it
