One of the hardest parts of parenting

One of the hardest parts of parenting today is realizing how much our kids carry that we can’t always see.

When I was young, no one really talked about anxiety or depression in children. It was brushed off as “bad behavior” or “just a phase.” But in 2001, I think most of us parents see it for what it really is our kids needing support in a world that can feel too heavy, too fast, and too loud.

I want my kids to know that it’s okay to feel sad sometimes. It’s okay to feel worried. It’s okay to not be okay. What isn’t okay is carrying all of it alone.

And the truth is, some days I don’t even have all the answers. I don’t know the perfect words or the perfect solution. But I do know that I’ll always be there to listen. To sit with them in their feelings. To remind them that nothing they feel will ever make me love them less.

Parenting in 2001 means raising kids who understand that mental health matters just as much as physical health. It means breaking the cycle of silence. It means choosing compassion over criticism.

If my kids grow up knowing that their emotions are valid and their voice matters, then I’ll know I’ve done my job.
