The Parson's Widow
"The Parson's Widow" (Prästänkan) is a 1920 Swedish silent film directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer.It tells the story of a young theology student who is assigned to replace a deceased pastor in a rural community. The student is initially excited about his new position, but he soon discovers that he must marry the previous pastor's widow in order to keep the job, as per the custom of the time. One of the problems is the woman is old enough to be his grandmother.
"The Parson's Widow" is considered one of Dreyer's early masterpieces and showcases his talent for creating atmospheric and emotionally resonant films.
